4. Nick Jonas

Priyanka Chopra’s husband was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 13. This singer went public with his type 1 diabetes in 2007. He has said that his symptoms included weight loss and thirst. When diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, his blood sugar was over 700 — and normal blood sugar levels are from 70 to 120. Jonas was hospitalized, but he learned to manage his condition. Once called juvenile diabetes, type 1 is the most common kind among people younger than 20, but it can strike at any age. “It was something I thought would slow me down before I even got started,” he said at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards. “But thankfully it didn’t, and I’m in the healthiest place I’ve been since my diagnosis.” It was his illness that inspired him to pen the band’s song “A Little Bit Longer”. He continues to be a role model within the diabetic community. In 2018, he wrote in an Instagram post that he maintains “full control of my day to day life with this disease, and I’m so grateful to my family and loved ones who have helped me every step of the way. Never let anything hold you back from living your best life.” In November 2019, he again took to Instagram and wrote: “This experience has shaped how I approach my health – working out, eating well, and always thinking about my blood sugar and insulin needs.”
